Between Príncipe Real and Bairro Alto lies the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon, an ancient institution dedicated to the promotion and sharing of knowledge in the fields of humanities and science.
With the aim of opening up to the public and making itself known, it promoted the conversion of former warehouse spaces into a more versatile and multifaceted programme.
Thus, the intervention involves the reconfiguration of the museum entrance of the Academy, two multi-purpose rooms, a bookstore, and a café that opens to the city.
The guiding principle for the intervention, in a building that was already noble and spatially rich, was silence in the design gestures. The aim is for the final result to give the impression that everything already belonged, and nothing substantial was added or imposed.
